Chapter Seven
Mitchell would believe his head had been severed from his body if it hadnât been blatantly clear that something had died in his mouth. The pounding in the upper part of his body couldnât be outdone by the carcass he surely must be gnawing on. If he had to guess, it would be a skunk. A bald skunk. He tried to push it away from his teeth but it was going nowhere.
âWhy are you sticking your tongue out at me?â
Kayden. Mitchell figured the sexy assistant was probably still here. Heâd woken up in the middle of the night and had to piss like no oneâs business. Heâd stumbled to the bathroom, apparently still half drunk, and had been startled by Kayden gripping his hips behind him to steady him as he relieved himself. When theyâd made their way back to bed, heâd hovered around Mitchell with his arms held out as a person does a toddler who is learning to walk. Mitchell had wondered why the man was even here in the first place and knew they should probably talk about things. But apparently his tongue had now morphed into some semblance of a bloated dead animal.
And he was thirsty.
Mitchell groaned as he licked his lips and moved his tongue around, trying to create some saliva.
âLift up, I brought you some water.â
âBless you,â Mitchell mumbled as he clumsily sat up. He took the glass and sipped.
âI also have the boudin and crackers we bought last night.â
Mitchell kept drinking the water but darted his eyes at Kayden questioningly. He barely remembered getting off work, and nowhere in his fragmented memory was there a shopping trip for food.
Kayden smiled. âI had to get gas last night. You said you wanted something to eat when I stopped and you saw the boudin sign. I knew youâd probably pass out as soon as we got here, but figured itâd help absorb some of the alcohol when you woke up. Water is the best thing for a hangover, but you need something on your stomach too since you puked up what was in there before. Think you can try to eat a little something?â
Mitchellâs stomach growled. He put the water down and nodded. âCrackers. Just crackers.â
Kayden fished out some of the crackers from the plastic sleeve and handed them to Mitchell.
He ate a couple before having to stop and drink some more. Dry crackers didnât make his hydrating efforts easy.
âHere. I grabbed some ibuprofen from your kitchen. Itâll help.â Kayden dropped the pills into Mitchellâs hand. He took them and drank a few extra gulps of water.
âIâm hungry, but I donât think I can stomach boudin. Or eggs.â Mitchell burped and grimaced. âDefinitely no eggs.â
âHow about a breakfast burritoâ¦minus the eggs? We can get it on the way to work.â
Mitchell groaned and fell back against his pillow. âI totally forgot about work.â
Kayden chuckled. âNot surprised. Getting shitfaced is usually reserved for the weekends.â He patted Mitchellâs thigh. âCâmon. Letâs get you in the shower. Itâll make you feel better.
